She was laid down on 30 July 1953 at Halifax Shipyards Ltd., Halifax

Chaudiere was not selected for the Improved Restigouche (IRE) or Destroyer Life Extension (DELEX) programs and was instead decommissioned from active service in the CF on 23 May 1974.

She was placed in Category C reserve and in 1988 she reverted to a parts hulk, with part of her bow being used in 1989 to repair her sistership .

She was sunk as an artificial reef in Sechelt Inlet
