. After CRB eliminated in the first round, he was loaned to Coruripe

announced that they signed Gustavo in 2½ year contract. But Gustavo refused to play for the German club despite signed the contract, he told the club he wished to stay in Brazil for family reasons.

on 1 May 2007, where he won 2008 Campeonato Paulista. In August 2008 he extended his contract with Desportivo Brasil until 31 December 2011 and extended the loan until 31 December 2009.
But on 29 January 2009 the loan contract was terminated and Gustavo left for Cruzeiro
on the same day, on a 1-year loan. Cruzeiro also received 20% transfer fee from Desportivo Brasil if Gustavo was successfully sold after the loan.
On 1 January 2010, Gustavo extended his contract with Desportivo Brasil again, this time until 1 September 2012. On the same day he left for Vasco on a 1-year loan.
But on 26 July 2010, Gustavo travelled to Italy and signed a contract with Serie A
newcomer Lecce
on the next day. Lecce also had a option to buy him outright in summer 2011 for about €0.7 to €0.8 million. He also obtained Italian nationality though ancestry in order to by-pass the non-EU policy of FIGC. That season he made 19 starts.
On 2 July 2011 he returned to Brazil and signed a 1½ years contract with Botafogo
