Gujranwala Medical College is situated in Gujranwala, in the Province of Punjab, with a population of approximately five million. Gujranwala is sixth largest district of the province and is famous for its industrialization roaring agri–based economy and wrestlers. Gujranwala is a fast growing mega city having established six degree colleges & two postgraduate colleges, the Punjab University Campus, Rachna College of Engineering & Technology, Gujranwala and GIFT University Gujranwala. On 17 – 01 – 2011, the Chief Minister of Punjab inaugurated Gujranwala Medical College having strength of 100 students admitted in first year MBBS class during session 2010 – 2011. Prof. Dr. Atiya Mubarak Khalid is the first and current Principal/Project Director Gujranwala Medical College Gujranwala which is situated on the Pasroor road, satellite town Gujranwala. It has facility of hostel accommodation for girls’ students. District Headquarter Hospital is attached with Gujranwala Medical College, as teaching hospital having 450 beds. It has all the major specialties including Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Eye, ENT, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Urology and Trauma Center. At present the surgical unit is recognized for FCPS by CPSP. Present status of the college is as follows:
a. The basic science departments (Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry) are already functional.
b. Essential specialties (Medical, Surgical, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Eye, ENT, Skin Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, Radiology and Cardiology) are functional with qualified staff in District Head Quarter Hospital affiliated with Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala.
c. Hostel for Boys & Girls is present inside the premises of Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala
d. A new campus of Gujranwala Medical College having entire basic sciences department, offices, residences, staff colony, boys and girls’ hostel along with 1000 bedded hospital and other necessary infrastructure will be constructed.
