gtkterm is also the name of a KDE/GNOME terminal program that drives serial ports. Previously abandoned in 2005 (see http://www.jls-info.com/julien/linux/), the project is now actively developing. Because of the lapse in development, the most commonly encountered version is the older version 0.99.5, which is packaged by many linux distributions. Later versions which include many bug fixes can be obtained from the current maintainer's website.
