"Gross, a post-village of Crawford county, is a station on the St. Louis & San Francisco R. R. 20 miles south of Fort Scott and 16 miles northeast of Girard, the county seat. It has telephone connections with the surrounding towns, an express office, and is a trading center for the neighborhood."
Gross was platted 28 November 1914 by J Gross and Freonia D Gross with the dedication and description stating:

The post office in the community was established on 28 September 1907 and discontinued on 30 April 1934.
Gross was the location of Crawford county school #135 and the A.B. Ryder Mercantile Company.

"Gross, a post-village of Crawford county, is a station on the St. Louis & San Francisco R. R. 20 miles south of Fort Scott and 16 miles northeast of Girard, the county seat. It has telephone connections with the surrounding towns, an express office, and is a trading center for the neighborhood."
Gross was platted 28 November 1914 by J Gross and Freonia D Gross with the dedication and description stating:
- “This is to certify that J.C. Gross and Fronia D. Gross, his wife are the owners in fee simple of the following ascribed land, to-wit:
- Description. Beginning at a point ninety-eight (98) feet East and thirty (30) feet South of the N.W. corner of Section 23, Town 28, R.25 Crawford County Kansas; Thence East 1237.1 (twelve hundred thirty-seven and one tenth) feet; thence South 525 (five hundred twenty-five) feet; Thence West 1036.3 (ten-hundred thirty-six and three tenths) feet; thence North 435 (four hundred thirty-five) feet, to the place of beginning.
- And have caused the same to be laid-out and subdivided into lots, streets, and an alley. Dimensions are marked and fully set forth on this plat.
- The streets and alleys are dedicated to public use and the lots are intended for sale to be known as Gross.”
