He scored a long range goal against Leyton Orient in the 2009–10 season, his long distance shooting is one of his main traits.
After scoring 4 goals in December 2010 he won the League Two Player of the Month Award.
Tansey scored Stockport's last goal in the Football League at the end of 2010/11 season, a penalty in the tenth minute of added time. This was Stockport's last league goal as their 106 year unbroken membership came to an end with their relegation to the non-league pyramid.
In May 2011 he was offered a new one year deal by the club but at the end of the month it was reported that a free transfer move to Inverness Caledonian Thistle of the Scottish Premier League
was possible.
