Greenwood is a city in and the county seat of Greenwood County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 22,071 at the 2000 census and had slightly increased to 22,710 according to a 2009 estimate.-Geography:...

. The school is in District 50, and the current principal is Dr. Beth Taylor. The school's mascot is the Eagle.

Campus

In the summer of 2008, Greenwood High began renovations to the campus. A new classroom wing was added, which has been completed and is now known as the "H-Building." The library was extended and brought up to technological codes. The school has a new office section and has added in a new press box and fixed up the home bleachers.

Sports

Greenwood High School is a division 4A school with competitive teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

While successful in many areas athletically, Greenwood is most known for its prestigious football program. Playing its first football season in 1933, Greenwood has won 13 division 4A state titles and compiled a 71% winning percentage. While most recently making it to the State Championship in the 2010 season.Greenwood was most well known under two different head coaches. The first, the legendary Pinky Babb, is one of the all time winning coaches. In 39 seasons, he had an 83% winning percentage and 10 state titles. The other, Shell Dula, compiled an 87% winning percentage in 11 seasons, winning 3 state championships and winning its region every year. Greenwood High is also home to a prestigious chess program, with its members frequently being rated among the top in the state.

A recent 2006 graduate James "Jimmy" Henry Parker was selected for the 2010 United States World Cup roster. James signed with Real Salt Lake on May 23, 2010 after a successful career at the University of South Carolina compiling 41 goals and 23 assists.
