. The population was 802 at the 2000 census. The town was named for surveyor Alexander Greenwood. The village of Locke Mills, on State Route 26
in the northern part of Greenwood, is the town's urban center and largest settlement.

There were 320 households out of which 31.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.8% were married couples
living together, 8.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% were non-families. 20.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
