 confirmed that the Gran Hermano house will open again just one week after the Gran Hermano 11 finale, this time however with former housemates from previous seasons of Gran Hermano. The twist for this edition is that housemates will be working in pairs, corresponding to their season, similar to the twist used on Big Brother 9 U.S.

 This is the shortest season of 'Gran Hermano' to be ever produced in Spain, lasting only 56 days, this happens mainly because the show was supposed to run for a period of at least a month but was extended until ratings were possible, the Galas of Days 35, 42 and 49 have all received a viewership below of 3 million viewers, thus, producers decide to end its run on March 30, 2010, so viewers can happily wait for Gran Hermano 12 set to premiere in the fall of 2010.

On Day 1, 12 ex-housemates entered the Gran Hermano House used for GH11. All of them has had a relationship with their other housemate of the same season during their original time in the Gran Hermano house and will be nominated and evicted as pairs.

Nacho & Desirée walked from the house along on Day 3 due to their child becoming ill.

On Day 7, two other pairs entered the house (Beatriz & Inma and Pepe & Raquel L.) both from Gran Hermano 7.

On Day 8, Arturo was ejected after having a confrontation with Indhira; the following day, Indhira voluntarily left the house as well. On Day 14, GH9 housemates Amor & Andallá and GH10 housemates Ana and Almudena entered the house.

On Day 17, Bea of GH6 became the second housemate to be ejected after a confrontation with GH9's Melania; Bea's ejection left partner Nicky partner-less; on Day 21, Cristal of GH6 entered to replace Bea and become Nicky's partner, only to be evicted moments later with Nicky.

On Day 28, Piero & Melania left the House and this night, GH1 housemates Maria José and Jorge entered the house.

Day 35 brought GH8 housemates Dani and Marusky enter the house and GH10 housemates Gemma and Orlando.

During Week 5, Maria José briefly left the house as she felt ill and returned the next day; however, several days later on Day 37, she permanently left the house due to "personal reasons", leaving Jorge of GH1 without a partner until the Gala of Week 6 where Silvia entered.

Ainhoa

Ainhoa entered the house on Day 1. She was a housemate from Gran Hermano 5

Arturo entered the house on Day 1. He was a Gran Hermano 11 housemate where he had an on and off relationship with Indhira. He was ejected on Day 8 after throwing a glass of wine on top of Indhira's food after a fight they had; although Arturo and Indhira were pairs for this edition, Indhira stayed in the house, until the next day when she decided to voluntarily leave the house.

Bea

Bea entered the house on Day 1. She was on Gran Hermano 6

Dani

Dani entered the house on Day 35. He was on Gran Hermano 8

Indhira

Indhira entered the house on Day 1. She was a housemate from Gran Hermano 11 where she had an on and off relationship with Arturo. After exiting the GH11 House, she started a blog on the official website of Telecinco called El Blog de Indhira (Indhira's Blog). On Day 8, Arturo was ejected after having a confrontation between them and he threw a glass of wine on top of her meal. This decision did not affect her stay in the house at all and would have received a new partner during the next Gala. On Day 9, she walked out of the House after thinking of who could be her new partner and she said that it would be the right thing to do.

Inma

Inma entered the house on Day 7. She was a housemate from Gran Hermano 7
