Graft (politics)

In general graft is an unscrupulous use of one’s authority for personal gain. However, the gain may also end up in party coffers (not necessarily in anyone's personal pocket). Grafting is not necessarily illegal.

Example

An example of graft could be:
One advocates to benefit group.

The advocate is part of the group benefiting.

The advocate’s motive is to benefit one′s self.


A more traditional example of political graft is given by someone who pays in exchange for a political favor by means of a political donation (e.g. ristournes in Quebec or tangenti in Italy).
