Gong Zhi is a fictional character in Luo Guanzhong
's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms
. He served as an advisor under the warlord Jin Xuan
of Wuling
Commandery. He suggested to Jin to surrender when Liu Bei
's general Zhang Fei attacked their territory, but Jin ignored him. Gong killed Jin when the latter returned to his fortress after his defeat and surrendered to Zhang Fei. Gong was appointed prefect
of Wuling to replace Jin Xuan.
