and his ideas. Golly lived in Glenbogle all his life, but as a teenager he despised it. Hector gave Golly the post of ghillie when he became Laird. Golly thought his job was under threat when Archie MacDonald
announced there would be a new Head Ranger job on offer, so Golly got an interview to secure his role at Glenbogle. However Archie and the board chose Fergal MacClure for the job, and Golly lost his trust in Archie. Golly left Glenbogle when he started to become blind, but Archie sent Golly to an optician, and Golly retained his role at Glenbogle. Golly was left heart broken after the chef Irene Stuart
(whom he liked) got together with his best friend Duncan McKay. In series five, one of Golly's friends Molly, got engaged to Andrew Booth, but Golly found Andrew had been engaged to many women, but never married them, and had given the same ring to all of them, including Molly. , but they just agreed to be friends. In the same series, Jess
, his daughter came to live with him after a row with her mother. In series six, Golly bumped into dancing teacher Meg Paterson
at the market and eventually became romantically involved with her. Meg nearly left Golly when she was offered a job on a boat cruise around the world, but to Golly's relief she stayed in Glenbogle. Meg actually left Golly towards the end of the series as she felt she was relying on him too much to get work. However Meg returns and announced that she was pregnant with Golly's child. Meg had a baby boy called Cameron, then died in childbirth. In series seven, single parent Golly considers giving Cameron to Meg's sister Rosie, but decides against it and instead gets help from Molly and Jess with looking after his child. Golly and Molly's relationship deepens in series 7, and he finally realises he loves her. But Molly won't do anything love-wise without consulting the ghost of her late husband Hector.
