, which is broadcast every Monday and Tuesday on Basque Radio-television's first channel, ETB 1. Set up in an imaginary Basque seaside town, the title of the serial is the name of the main street in that town. First broadcast in 1994, almost 3,000 episodes have been made so far, and it is one of the most successful programmes of ETB 1.

In the beginning every chapter lasted 30 minutes and they were broadcast from Monday to Friday. Then the Friday episode was removed. Since 2004 two one hour long episodes are broadcast every Monday and Tuesday. Then thirty minute episodes (half a normal episode) are repeated in the afternoon everyday.

Arralde

Goenkale. Origins

Goenkale kicked off in 1994, with a bad relationship between the Lasa brothers. Jose Mari, owner of hostel-restaurant Boga-Boga, and Martin, owner of a shop. After their mother dies, they find out that the will favours one of them, and that fact destroys the relationship between both families. The situation becomes unbearable until the sudden death of Martin, one of the two brothers.

XVI. Season. Synopsis

The relationship between the Madariaga brothers, German and Kandido, is getting worse as the time goes by. Even more when German finds out that his brother sent him to jail, as a revenge after German's behaviour made his live a nightmare. Kandido is not in the mood forgiveness, but Unai's death, German's youngest son, makes him think it over. Kandido becomes the manager of the family business, with the help of Abel their father. Meanwhile, they will make a big effort to get out of the drug dealing business. Things at home don't work better. After many years of lies and betrayals Alizia and Kandido's marriage is over. Alizia loves German, and she needs to live with him, now that everybody knows that German is the father of Naia, Alizia's youngest daughter. Their new life together isn't going to be an easy way. Not everybody is will accept this reality.

At the same time, Magistrate Klaudia Egaña, the new mayor of the town, gets to Arralde after Koldo's refuse in the city hall. She is going to do her best to boost the town, and all the inhabitants will support her. Only a woman is going to confront her. Leonor. She doesn't want to lose her lands for the new mayor's projects. Even that, Leonor will be defeated by Klaudia, a woman who doesn't like to lose at anything, cold and selfmade.

Moreover, nobody knows that Klaudia is back because of the dark Petralanda case. A case following an accident where many people were dead, and in which she worked as a magistrate. This case also brings back Olga, German's first wife, with a new name, with a new face. She is going to try to clarify the case, and the death in strange circumstances of her youngest son, linked for sure to the case.

Cameo Appearances and anecdotes

Goenkale has had such a big impact in the basque society, that some seasons ago, the Butchers Association asked to eliminate one of the plot referred to a case about adulterated meat. The issue even reached the parliament.

The actress playing the character of Maria Luisa was once rebuked in the street by her wickedness in the series. The actress received a letter from a man in which she was warned that some other characters wer lying to her. The man wrote this address in the envelope: Maria Luisa Galardi. Boga-Boga tavern. Arralde. Gipuzkoa. A smart postman that had the letter added in the envelope the address of the TV station, and that's how the letter got into the hands of the actress.

Eneritz Artetxe Julia Bilbao 2005 Daughter of Maria Luisa, she has three children, and lives with Maria Luisa in her house. She owns a hotel in Arralde along with her sister Agurtzane Etxaburu.

Iñigo Larrinaga Koldo Agirre 1994 Former lawyer, he now works at the city hall of Arralde. He is the representative of the Ecologist Party at the city hall. He is married with Leonor Cardenas and has a daughter, Milena. Lately he has been having an affair with Iraide.
Aitor Beltran Martxelo Zaldua 2005 Brother of Eduardo Zaldua, he has dated Julia Bilbao and Agurtzane Etxaburu. He is the father of Asier, and oncle of Mirari and Ales.
Felix Arkarazo Andoni Murua 1998 Former chief police officer at Arralde's police station. He is dating Nekane Beitia, which is pregnant. He is being blackmailed by Eduardo Zaldua.
Iñaki Perurena Imanol Mendizabal 1997 Mayor of Arralde, he became mayor when the former mayor was murdered. Prior to that, he had been the judge of the town. He has been dating Begoña, but now Begoña has accused him of sexually attacking her and she has denounced him.
