Goathill is a hamlet in the county of Dorset
in England
. It is situated a couple of miles east of the town of Sherborne
in the West Dorset
administrative district of the county. It lies very close to the county boundary however, and for much of its history lay instead within the neighbouring county of Somerset
, hence in 1980 author and literary director Roland Gant described Goathill as being "just in Dorset by a nanny-goat's whisker". The village had a small population
in 2001.
