Global Philanthropy Group was founded in 2006 by Trevor Neilson, Ann Kelly, and Maggie Neilson.

Trevor Neilson is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves on the advisory boards of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation, the Wikimedia Foundation, the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Global Health and the Genocide Intervention Network.
