Gilson was once an agricultural hamlet

. It dates from the Anglo-Saxon period and is first documented in 1232 AD. It is now largely a residential area due to the nearby M42 motorway
and the changes in British agriculture.
The 18th century Gilson Hall still exists and is the home of the Townshend family, famous for their dairy herds. They had relations who lived at Kingshurst
Hall, until it was demolished.
