George Mahon was a former chairman and founding member of Everton Football Club

As a child his family moved to Ireland
, where he was educated. He returned to Liverpool
and worked for a law firm based in North John Street in the business district of the city.
Mahon formed a football team with the Reverend Ben Chambers, at whose Church he was Organist, to provide a team sport for the church's cricket
team to play during winter. Initially names St. Domingo's after the church, the team was renamed Everton
in 1879.
Due to the rising rental costs of the club's then-home ground Anfield
, Mahon was key to the decision to move to Mere Green, which later became known as Goodison Park
. He then became the club's chairman in 1892, and remained a board member after resigning from the post in 1895.
