George Anson Starkweather, born in Waymart

He was a township clerk for Canaan, PA and a director of one of the examining boards for teachers. He also served as overseer of the poor, justice of the peace, and assessor. He built a leather tannery in Waymart in 1859, which was later destroyed by fire.
