The hamlet is located in Moss Valley, by the side of The Moss. It has a farm, called Geerlane Farm, where a farmer was killed in 2010 after being trampled on by his cattle.

Geerlane used to be home to a small quarry, but that closed several years ago. Since then, there has been no significant industrial activity in the hamlet, with the main industry being farming nowadays.
