, USD 231 has had to manage the challenges of exploding enrollment numbers since the late 1990's. The district built the current high school in 2000. The building has been expanded several times since opening. Every school in the district has been built or renovated since 2000. As of the 2011-2012 school year, the district is currently proposing a bond issue to be voted on in early 2012. This bond will facilitate the construction of a new elementary and middle school campus in the center portion of Gardner. The location for these buildings was chosen to relieve the student numbers at Moonlight Elementary and Wheatridge Middle School, both have been operating over-capacity for several years. The 2012 bond issue also will finance additional renovations at the high school campus, including an expansion of the district football stadium as well as multiple other sports facilities improvements. USD 231 has purchased multiple tracts of land throughout the district to construct future schools. The district is currently undecided on whether to build a second high school, or to continue expanding the current building to meet future enrollment numbers.
