Career

Mr. Gandhi Ambalam was born in 1944 during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore. During his later years, Gandhi received a Singapore Public Service Commission scholarship to study journalism in England. Upon his return, Gandhi was employed in the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation, eventually rising to the position of Chief Editor (News) and Executive Producer (Current Affairs) of the SBC. He had, amongst many things in SBC, supervised and ediited radio and television news bullitins.

Gandhi left the SBC in 1982 to join the Singapore Monitor as its senior journalist, where he covered regional and international forums and events. He has also served as a Research Associate with a local think-tank.

Singapore Democratic Party

Gandhi joined the Singapore Democratic Party in the 1990s and contested as a candidate in the Jalan Besar GRC during the 1997 General Elections. He also contested as a candidate in Jurong GRC during the 2001 General Election. Subsequently, Gandhi found himself elected as a CEC member of the SDP.
