, Galachipa has a population of 286,307. Males constitute 51.36% of the population, and females 48.64%. This Upazila's adult population is 137,818. Galachipa has an average literacy rate of 29.4% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.

Educational institutions

Galachipa Upazila is very famous for academic affairs. There are many good as well as famous schools, madrasha and colleges here. Galachipa High School is one of them. The school has many achievements and it is the holy symbol of knowledge of Galachipa Upazila. The school is now 75 years old. The Diamond Jubilee of the school will be celebrated in 2008. All are welcome very cordially. Another famous school is Ulania Hat High School.

Galachipa Degree College is another famous institution of Galachipa. Others are Panpatty High School,Bango Bondhu Girls High School, Haridevpur High School, Galachipa Girls'Secondary School, Haridebpur Secondary School, Charkhali Secondary School, Galachipa Girls' College, Galachipa High School Attached Primary School, Udayan Pre-Cadet School etc. are some famous institutions too.

Rivers

Galachipa Upzilla is highly river densed. Rivers and canals are here and there in Galachipa. The Bay of Bengal is very much colose her. However, Galachipa is situated on the bank of the "Ramnabad". Due to the river Galachipa is a famous port fot rice and other crops. A lare "Haat" is used to take place every Satur Day of the week based on the river. It is one of the largest "Haat" of greater Barisal. Another very famous river of Galachipa is "'Agunmukha'". This is dangerous as well as beautiful. In Bengali we can say "Sundarer Majhe Voyongkar". There are also many other dangerous and beautiful rivers in Galachipa.

Places of interest

There are another place of interest that is "'Agunmukha'". It is situated at side of Panpatty Union. It is the Meet-Point of several revers. There are a Sluice-gate of 15 doors as like "Kaptai badh" in rangamati. This Switch-gate is situated at Panpatty border.

Charanchal

Galachipa Upzilla is famous for her "Charanchal". "Char" means land disconnected from the mainland by rivers. These lands are highly disconnected and the river route is the only route. Road traffic has not been arranged yet. Some "Char"s are larger while some are very smaller. Rangabali, Baher Char, Barho Baishdia, Choto Baishdia, Chalitabunia, Char Kajal, Char Shiba, Char Montaj, Char Biswas, Mayar Char, Char Karfarma, Char Lakshmi, Char Kukrhi Mukrhi, Latar Char, Char Kalagachia etc. are very known to all.
The land of these "Char"s are very fertile and crops grow heavily here. But most of the people here are poor and deprived. They also suffer from "Information" greatly and their style of life is very low. The people here are mainly "Bhumiheen" (landless). Journalist Shankar Lal Dash is continuing research on this area. He is a specialist of "Charanchal".
