Geography

Gajwel is located at 17.8517°N 78.6828°E. It has an average elevation of 568 meters (1866 ft). Gajwel is about 53 km from Secunderabad Contonment on the Rajiv highway. It is one of the fastest-developing town with new industries setting up their base. The nearest Airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, which is the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Demography

Gajwel mandal is spread across 52659 acres (213 km²) of land. There are approximately 10,600 houses in the mandal. As per 1991 census, Gajwel mandal has a population of 55,320 of which are 27,840 men and 27,480 women.

Assembly Constituency

Gajwel is one of the largest assembly constituencies of the Medak district. Many believe that the winning party in this constituency will form the government in state too (quite interesting and true fact observed for many years). Mr T.Narsa Reddy(Congress) is current MLA and the same Congress is the current ruling party in state

Economy

Agriculture is the primary source of income. There are no special minerals found in this region. There are about 13 reasonable size tanks which supply water to about 2836 acres (11 km²) of land. There are about 147 ponds which supply water to about 2852 acres (12 km²). There are about 1,685 wells and 2,346 bore-wells. Approximately 49997 acres (202 km²) of land is suitable for irrigation.

Education

Gajwel mandal comprises 24 primary schools, ten upper middle schools and five high schools along with several government and private junior and degree colleges.

There are also several higher educational institutions catering for the needs of local population. A private engineering college (Syed Hashim College of Science and Technology (J N T U, Hyderabad), the Government-run Residential Polytechnic College with three branches ECE, Mech and CCP exclusively for SCs located at Sangapur near Gajwel. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya also caters for the population of Gajwel.

Infrastructure

The nearest railway station is about 25 km away.

Gajwel has a hospital with a capacity of 100 beds. There are also several private medical practitioners along with nursing-home facilities.

Several banks are located in the mandal, which includes State Bank of India, State Bank of Hyderabad, Grameena Vikas Bank (Manjeera Grameena Bank), Andhra Bank and Co-operative Bank.

Gajwel has four cinema theaters.

There are several function halls in Gajwel. It includes T Laxman Gardens and Function Hall at Toopran Road as well as PNR Gardens and Vaishnavi Gardens located at Mutrajpally Road and Satya Function Hall.

Religion

There are lot of temples in this town, such as Rama Temple(Ramalayam),Krishna Temple, Ayyappa Temple, Anjaneyswami Temple, Siva temple, Venkateshwara Swamy Temple, Santhosh Matha Temples, Sai Baba and Satya Saibaba Temple.

There are few mosques in the town. They are Madina Masjid, Jama Masjid, Mohammedia Masjid, Salaheen Masjid, Jalal Masjid and Ek Minar Masjid, peerlapally masjid.

Also there is a famous Church in the town.
