Coincidentally, after this same derby, Fábio was out for three months supposedly because of an injury, although he played for the whole match, during which he did not show any sign of severepain. He got back in the middle of July, got his starter status back and currently is one of the highlights of Cruzeiro, showing signs of recovering his old form. However, he has not been called for the Brazilian team in 2007.

In November 2007 it has been agreed that Fabio is to extend his current deal with Cruzeiro until December 2009 after speculation mounted on a possible move in the 2008 January transfer window. In April 2008, it was reported that he would moved to Fiorentina
