Friends School of Wilmington is a private/independent Quaker school with a Montessori preschool located in New Hanover County in Wilmington, NC. The school was founded in 1995 by the Wilmington (NC) Friends Meeting and has grown from a middle school for 30 students in rented space in downtown Wilmington to 195 students 18 months-8th grade on two campus located 2.9 miles apart with five buildings and eight acres of playgrounds, fields, gardens, woods, and a pond.

The Montessori preschool program lays a critical foundation for future growth as students explore areas such as Practical Life, Sensorial Activities, Cultural Areas, Language, Mathematics, Art and Kindermusik, and hone their large and small motor skills in an outdoor learning environment. Elementary and middle school students focus on Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science on a daily basis, in conjunction with enrichment courses and additional classes and activities such as Physical Education, Spanish, Art, Music, Service Learning and Meeting for Worship. Middle School students are enrolled in enrichment courses and programs including Spanish, Yearbook, Drama, Dance, Chorus, Keyboarding, Essential Computer Skills, Student Newspaper, Quakerism, Health, and Study Skills. The curriculum is relevant, research-based, developmentally appropriate and process-oriented.

The rigorous academic approach is designed to develop joyful, confident, successful students while emphasizing a collaborative and supportive learning environment.The school features several distinct programs deriving from its Quaker heritage. These include service learning, nature curriculum, teaching children to care. An emphasis on peace, harmony, equality, social justice, personal responsibility, community-based decision making with a focus on the environment, the community and the world.
