He was born in 1953 at Kiptiriri village of Bureti District and attended Cheborge and Korongoi primary schools. He joined Tenwek High School in Bomet District for his O-levels and later Shimo la Tewa High School for A-levels.In 1975, he was admitted to the University of Nairobi

for a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree. Upon graduation in 1979, he joined the Civil Service. He was employed at the department of the Inspectorate of State Corporations in the Office of the President before joining Treasury as an Under Secretary.

He was moved to State House to a newly Deputy Comptroller of State and President Moi's Private Secretary and he was crucial in both 1992 and 1997 General Elections.
In 1998 he was moved to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as Permanent Secretary and soon after appointed to High Commissioner to Australia where he served for one year when he resigned to concentrate on his personal ventures. In 2002 General elections hisn electioneering skills came in handy for the overwhelming NARC party victory. He was Nominated to parliament in 2003 by the NARC party.

Hon Bett is married with 8 Children.
