and Frank hired a private detective to follow them. On finding Kim and Dave in bed together, Frank uttered the line "What do you call this Dave, overtime?" Frank paid Kim £1 million to name him as the father of her baby, who they named James Francis Tate. Dave, as a result of the affair with Kim, later died in a fire at Home Farm whilst saving baby James on Christmas Eve 1996. When Kim disappeared, Frank was arrested and charged with her murder but was released due to lack of evidence. Frank died of a heart attack when Kim returned for James after having faked her own death. He was 59 years old.

Since Frank's death, two of his sons have died: his long-lost son Liam was killed by Zoe after kidnapping Chris. Chris committed suicide, having used a wheelchair for the final decade of his life after being injured by falling debris during the plane crash.
