 competitions. He went on to make 436 senior appearances, netting 149 goals, to become one of the top marksmen in Stoke's history.

Bowyer was never fully capped for England, but did represent his country in an English FA tour of Canada in 1950. After 23 years with Stoke, Bowyer finally left the club in 1960 and became player/manager of Macclesfield Town
