Neogranadinan Revolution

Mariño was an intellectual and a fervent defender of the human rights who absorbed much literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. At the outbreak of revolution in New Granada, he became a colonel in the revolutionary army. Taking advantage of his social and economic position, he became a spy in support of Colombia's struggle for independence from Spain.
