system. It was constructed in 1902 to serve the Fore River Shipyard.

In 1987 the MWRA acquired the railroad and shipyard. MWRA contracts the operation of the railroad to the Fore River Transportation Corporation. MWRA uses the railroad to transport solid sewage waste (sludge) from its sewage treatment plant to a privately owned processing facility.
