Fordon was at one point in the Grand Duchy of Posen and then under direct Prussian control. It was returned to Poland at the end of the First World War. During the 2nd World War, German soldiers killed thousands of people here.
In 1950 Fordon was still a separate town from Bydgoszcz and described as "seven miles east" of the latter city. It had a population of 3,514 and had manufactured such things as cement and paper.
At the moment, Fordon is the biggest district of Bydgoszcz.

History
Fordon is mentioned in sources for the first time in 1112. In those times it was a very important defensive castle. In 1330 it was destroyed by the Teutonic Knights.Fordon was at one point in the Grand Duchy of Posen and then under direct Prussian control.
