Folsom Lake College is a comprehensive, public community college, the 114th community college
in the State of California
, and the fourth campus of the Los Rios Community College District
. In January 2004, Folsom Lake College received initial accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
(WASC), one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States
. Accreditation certifies to students and the community that an educational institution meets or exceeds specific standards of quality.
Folsom Lake College serves the community with classes offered at the main Folsom
campus at 10 College Parkway, two outreach centers (the El Dorado Center in Placerville
and the Rancho Cordova
Center), and various off-site locations in communities of the region.
A full spectrum of support services and programs are available to enhance student success, including Counseling, Financial aid, tutoring, libraries, and computer centers.
In Fall 2005, Folsom Lake College opened over 65000 square feet (6,038.7 m²) of new/expanded instructional facilities on the main Folsom campus. In Spring 2006, a new bookstore/cafeteria on the Folsom campus and a new instructional building on the El Dorado Center campus opened. Construction on 50000 square feet (4,645.2 m²) of new instructional facilities is ongoing at the Folsom campus, with opening expected for Spring 2007. All of this construction is part of the college’s Master Plan, which calls for the college gradually growing to eventually accommodate 15,000-20,000 students.
As of Fall 2005, Folsom Lake College enrolled approximately 6,600 students choosing among approximately 1,000 different course offerings. Those students were served by 74 full-time faculty, including 9 counselors, 180 part-time faculty, 69 classified staff, and eight administrators.
The college offers students over 30 different Associate of Arts or Science degree
options, as well as over 30 certificate alternatives to choose from.
In 2011, the Folsom Lake College Visual and Performing Arts Center will be open to the public. The center will include an 850 seat main theater, a 200 seat city stage, and a 100 seat recital hall. The center will cost approximately $42.3 million. The majority, $38 million, will come from state and district bonds. $4.3 will come from a district capital campaign. The Folsom City Council has contributed $500,000 to FLC in exchange for the rights to name the 200-seat studio theater. Also in 2010, FLC will instate its own athletic program. Men's and womans golf
