The United States Census Bureau, being almost seven years out of date, truly does not show the growth
of both the population and current city limits. Florence has nearly doubled in size in all aspects. The current city limits have grown northward towards Richland, which is the same as Richland-Florence. Florence is also known as "The Backdoor to Brandon" because of the residential boom growing ever closer to the locale of the Brandon city limits. Brandon lies an estimated 15 miles to the east of Florence. The city has grown westward, and will continue to expand towards the Pearl River,eventually stopping at the Pearl River, which separates Rankin County from Hinds County.
