Fledborough railway station is a former railway station
in Fledborough, Nottinghamshire
. It was opened by the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway
in March 1897 and closed by British Railways in 1955.
From Tuxford
the line fell gently past Marnham, where in 1960, High Marnham Power Station
was built. This is where the line terminates today.
Fledborough station was just before the line crossed the River Trent
by means of the Fledborough Viaduct, the second largest engineering feature of the line, after Bolsover Tunnel outside Chesterfield
. Built on a slight curve, it had fifty nine brick arches on the approaches, with steel girder spans across the river itself.
At the other end was Clifton-on-Trent station
, much used by anglers.
Today the former station is the start of a 12 mile long cycle track to Lincoln.
