. It was the first Presbyterian congregation in the city of Wilmington.
History
The Presbyterian congregation in Wilmington began meeting as early as 1760 when the first minister arrived. The church was officially incorporated in 1785 as the "Protestant Presbyterian Church of Wilmington" and in 1817 became part of the Fayetteville Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church. The congregation's first church building was dedicated May 10, 1819. On November 3, 1819 a fire destroyed the church. The second church was completed in 1821. On April 13, 1859 this building was destroyed by fire. The third church was dedicated April 28, 1861. On New Year's Eve 1925 a fire consumed the third church. The current church building was dedicated in 1928.
Architecture
The church was designed by Hobart Brown Upjohn (1876–1949) in the Gothic Revival style.
