. The symphony employs local and regional musicians in performances of classical and modern symphonic music.

The FMSO began operation in 1912 as a small community orchestra under the direction of Harry Rudd, showcasing its talents during a Norwegian Saengerfest. At the time, the orchestra had 40 musicians. Today, under the direction of Bernard Rubenstein, the orchestra performs 23 times through the year in various capacities.
