Falkirk High School

Founded in 1886, Falkirk High School had a strong tradition of academic, musical and sporting excellence.
Until the era of comprehensive education it was one of the leading senior secondary schools in Scotland and every year pupils won major scholarships to Oxbridge and the ancient Scottish universities. Along with Stirling High School it was the final destination of the university-bound pupils from the other schools in Stirlingshire which gave it an immensely competitive sixth form or scholarship year.
Today it is a non-denominational six-year fully comprehensive school, situated in approximately 1 mile from the centre of the town. It serves a widespread catchment area and has six associated primary schools: Bainsford, Bantaskin, Carmuirs, Comely Park, Easter Carmuirs and Langlees Primary Schools.
The school has approximately 1200 pupils and 90 teaching staff and seeks to provide for the needs of all pupils, irrespective of age, aptitude and ability, in an equitable way through its management and atmosphere.
Notable ex pupils include novelist Alan 'Alvin' Bissett, inventor of the Segway Ronald Head and the infamous socialite and society commentator, Ryan "Big Wheels" Gilmour. It also has produced a host of sportsmen and women including such international stars as the swimmer Bobby McGregor and the athlete John Cameron
and many more.
A new school building has recently been constructed over the playing fields of the old school, to replace the old building which was in much need of repair.
There are four houses - Campbell, Robertson, Cameron and Mackay, which are all named after the first four rectors of the school.
