F. Charles Brunicardi

On July 1, 2011, Dr. F. Charles Brunicardi rejoined the UCLA faculty as Professor and Chief of the Santa Monica-UCLA General Surgery Group and a Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery for Surgical Services at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Brunicardi is a gastrointestinal surgeon-scientist who was a member of the UCLA surgical faculty from 1989 to 1995, when he was recruited to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas as George Jordan Professor and Chief of General Surgery. In 1999, Dr. Brunicardi became DeBakey/Bard Professor and Chairman of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor and held that leadership position for the past 12 years.

Research Interests and Contributions

Dr. Brunicardi’s research interests focus upon translational genomic medicine and surgery. His clinical areas of expertise include gastrointestinal surgery and surgery of neuroendocrine tumors. Dr. Brunicardi has held continuous research funding since 1992, and he has a vast bibliography with more than 250 publications and is the editor of a surgical textbook.
