Academic

Lessons are taught in dedicated subject departments. Students in Year 9 take a common curriculum consisting of English, Mathematics, Science, French, Art, Design, History, Geography, Religious Education, Music, Drama, Physical Education, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE). Spanish as a second language is also begun at this stage. Each subject area groups students in the way it deems most appropriate. Children who require extra help are withdrawn for some lessons. In Years 10/11 students follow two year courses in English, Mathematics, Balanced Science, PSME, PE, half courses in Information Technology and optional subjects chosen from a wide range on offer, including pre-vocational and GNVQ Part 1 Courses. The school also offers 21 A-Level courses plus GNVQ and AVCE

Pastoral and extra curricular

Pastoral and social organisation is by mixed ability tutor groups within Year Groups; Heads of Year have substantial responsibility for Years 9, 10, 11 and 12/13 respectively. In addition to their subject teaching commitments all form tutors teach their own form for one period per week as part of a planned programme of personal and social education, careers etc.
