Everett is the last city in the United States with a bicameral legislaturehttp://www.cityofeverett.com/Everett_files/citycouncil/index.htm, which is composed of a seven-member Board of Aldermen and an 18-member Common Council. On November 8, 2011, the voters approved a new City Charter that will change the City Council to a one branch (unicameral) body with 11 members - 6 ward councilors and 5 councilors-at-large; all will be elected city-wide. The new City Council will be elected at the 2013 City Election.
