He married Teresa Doyle (1825–1911), daughter of merchant John Doyle, in 1854, at San Francisco. They had three children, Augustine Casserly (1861–1893), Eugene Casserly (1869–1925), and Francis Casserly (1856–1858).

Casserly was initially buried at Calvary Cemetery, then reinterred in 1904 at Holy Cross Cemetery
