Esiliiga
Encyclopedia
Esiliiga is the second-top league arranged by the Estonian Football Association
. The league format was changed along with the Meistriliiga
's, and therefore from the year 2005 consists of ten teams. Esiliiga starts from April and lasts until around the start of November. Many Meistriliiga clubs reserve squads play in the Esiliiga, but none of them can get promoted according to the rules set by the FA. All teams play each other four times. The top team receives automatic promotion to the Meistriliiga, unless it is a reserve team, in which case the team that finished second gets promoted. The team that finishes after the formerly mentioned team, goes to the play-offs against the second last, ninth, team of the Meistriliiga.
