. Best known for his cement paintings, his work is about the passing of time, chance, and beauty, and are often compared to abandoned buildings, eroding stone or forgotten structures. Career

Erik Sommer has been exhibiting art in group and solo shows since 2004. He has been represented by Rooster Gallery since 2010. His first solo exhibition with the gallery, Red Balloon (I Wish I Was A), helped introduce him to an international market, as several of the pieces were sold to overseas collectors. His next solo show with the gallery will be in 2012.

In the fall of 2011 Sommer participated in RAW, his first international exhibition, at Pertwee, Anderson & Gold, a contemporary art gallery
