Critical reception

IGN gave the episode an "Outstanding" rating of 9.0/10 and said of it that "After last week's so-so episode, this time out, Spaced rebounds in a big way, with its best episode so far. In "Epiphanies" we meet a previously unknown friend of Tim's, Tyres O'Flaherty (Michael Smiley, in a wonderful performance). Tyres is another inspired Spaced character; A bike messenger by day, Tyres lives to go clubbing and dance by night. But as he readily admits ("I just wish sometimes I could control these f**king mood swings!"), you never know quite what temperament you'll find him in. His first scene is a classic, as he storms into Tim and Daisy's apartment, and angrily chastises them one moment, while blissfully dancing to the beat of music only he can hear in the next. This all leads to a clever little moment, in which Tim shows Daisy how he's learned to deal with Tyres' frequent bursts of anger."
