Emmanuel "Manny" Allen Burriss (born January 17, 1985 in Washington, D.C.
) is a Major League Baseball
second baseman
for the San Francisco Giants
. He is a switch-hitter who throws right-handed and has played second base, shortstop, and third base.
, and St. Ann's Academy in middle school. His best friend, Deloran Young, was also a teammate with Burriss in high school. Young was killed in a shooting and Burriss dedicates his successes in the majors to Young. Saying that sometimes it feels like Deloran is there with him. due to his lack of offensive production. On July 5, 2009 Burriss fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot rounding second base at Fresno, ending his season. He refractured the foot in Spring training 2010. Burriss returned (in Fresno) late in the 2010 season, and he was called up once the season ended.
