. Pelton opted not to compete in the 200 m IM in Rome because of a scheduling conflict with the 100 m backstoke, and was replaced by Ariana Kukors

 for the event. Pelton also opted to swim the 50 m backstroke at the World Championships.

At the World Championships, Pelton placed sixth in the 200 m backstroke (2:08.04), 13th in the 100 m backstroke (1:00.51), and 22nd in the 50 m backstroke (28.86). Additionally, Pelton swam the backstroke leg of the 4x100 m medley preliminaries, but the United States did not advance to the final.
