Born Elana Lani Cooper in Bat Yam, Israel; to a Polish landscape gardener, Eden originally auditioned for a part in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959). Upon receiving the part of Ruth, the film crew changed her name to Elana Eden, because "Cooper" did not sound Jewish.
