. The school is open to students of all backgrounds and offers instruction in the Egyptian, British and American curricula. El Alsson is owned by Mme Somaya and Mr. Colin Rogers.

History

El Alsson School was founded in 1982 using the Egyptian national curriculum. In 1992, a section instructing students in the British curriculum was introduced and the program led El Alsson to become one of the first schools to offer a British section from Foundation Stage 1 (3 year olds) to GCSE, AS and A-Level (18 year olds). The school established an American Section K - 12 in 2004. The national section is no longer available.

Activities and traditions

Every year, the school holds a carnival by the name 'El Alsson School Carnival'. It is an exceedingly popular event usually attended by many individualls around the city. In 2006, the carnival was attended by almost 15,000 people.

In 2004, the school introduced 'International Day'. It is an event held in the school field. After choosing a country, each class then works to produce food, clothes, and background information to do with their country. Using coupons, individualls may buy food produced by the classes. Many awards including 'Best Display' are given out. The school's mascot is, 'The EA Giant'.

The school has four teams for intramural competitions like Sports Day, Trivias, the Library Quiz, and Hardest Workers in School. Initially, these houses were Karnak (blue), Memphis (green), Siwa (yellow), and Thebes (red). In 2008, these houses were replaced by, Sekhmet

  • Mathematics (Core)
  • Arabic/Religion Studies/Social Studies

At AS the school offers a choice of up to four subjects chosen from English Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, ICT, Geography, History, French, Business Studies and Economics.

A2 (Year 13) is optional and is required only if a student wishes to complete a full A-level. However, students can only pursue three A2 subjects and usually do so by dropping one AS subject.

School Council

The El Alsson School Council is the official organisation to represent the student body at El Alsson. The Council is constituted of representatives from every class (From Y7-Y10). From Year 11 onwards representatives are known as Executive Members and occupy a more senior position in the running of various organizations. The Council is not politically-aligned and does not involve itself in the day-to-day running of affairs of the school, but are active in organizing charity bake sales and events.

The Council is headed by Dr. Mona Khattar. The Council is a branch of the school administration so it is not politically motivated and has no opposition The Council frequently endorses organizations and is a patron to several orphanages.

The school participates in Operation Smile. The Y10 Business Studies group opened a stationery called, "El Maktaba". All money made by the stationary now goes to Operation Smile

School library

The Eileen Lucas Library is a facility for students and teachers alike. The complex is used for recreational and research purposes. The library houses 20,000 books and has a Media Room adjacent. The Library is headed by Ms. Liliane Fahmy. The Library staff organize the Annual Alsson Library Quiz.

Rugby Team

El Alsson is well known for its rugby team, commonly known as El Alsson rugby Giants. It is coached by Mr. Chris Beals and captained by Ramzi Loza. They have had a very successful year so far and have not yet been beaten.
They are the first ever junior team to travel abroad to represent their school in Dubai. They have beaten AUC's B Team, The Alexndria Rugby Team and the Cairo Rugby Team. All this was achieved in 2010/2011 season only. The team's colors are black and yellow, they are represented by the El Alsson logo.
The team currently consists of 27 students.
