Egyptian Hip Hop are an English
indie rock
band, formed in Greater Manchester
in 2008. Their debut EP, "Some Reptiles Grew Wings" was released 20 September 2010 through the Hit Club record label.
's Sunshine Studios and playing small gigs in the city's cafes and bars. They soon attracted the attention of some major music publications, including The Fly

. The latter featured the band in a Christmas 2009 new music issue, and included a demo version of the song "Rad Pit" on a free to download mp3 mixtape

amongst others.
Helped by such exposure the band were able to progress to playing slots at small music festivals, and featured as a support act on tours with bands including Girls
and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. They later embarked on their first real UK tour with Hit Club label mates Is Tropical
.
In February 2010 Egyptian Hip Hop were invited to record a live session for Huw Stephens
' BBC Radio One show on 4 February 2010, in which they played four songs - "Wild Human Child", "Heavenly", "Moon Crooner" and "Valhalla Party"
After releasing a music video for Wild Human Child on YouTube
on 15 March 2010 the band released debut double A-side single "Wild Human Child"/"Heavenly", produced by Sam Eastgate of Late of the Pier
on 12 April 2010 through the Hit Club /Zarcorp Records label Following its release BBC Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw
named Wild Human Child his single of the week.
Egyptian Hip Hop received further press attention and were booked to play bigger festival slots, including Evolution
, and Reading and Leeds weekend (at which they briefly joined Warpaint
onstage at a secret midnight performance) in the UK, and France's MIDI Festival.
On 20 September 2010 the band released their debut EP Some Reptiles Grew Wings (sometimes called Some Reptiles Developed Wings) which was recorded at Club Ralph Studios in London
with producer Hudson Mohawke
and co-producer Mark Ralph
. The EP featured a new recording of Rad Pitt and an official version of Moon Crooner, along with two previously unrecorded songs, Middle Name Period and Native
Little is known of the band's next move, although the fact they maintain regular postings on social networking site Twitter
suggests they are still active. In summer 2011 alternative rock
band Viva Brother insulted Egyptian Hip Hop in an NME article, referring to them as "Egyptian Drip Plop" It was speculated by the magazine whether or not the comment would lead to a feud, although nobody from the Egyptian Hip Hop party retaliated.
Multiple postings in late October via social networking site Twitter
have suggested that they are now busy recording for their first full length album. On 20 November 2011, they announced on their Facebook that the album was finished.

Biography
Egyptian Hip Hop formed in winter 2008, by friends Alex Hewett (lead vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Louis Stevenson-Miller (guitar, bass, keyboards and backing vocals). They recruited school friends Alex Pierce (drums) and Nick Delap (guitar and bass), who had previously played in a band with Hewett under the name Copycats.
