 is the expected incidental radiation dose to part of the body or tissue, as the result of a standard successful imaging procedure, which will have the same effective risk or danger to the whole-organism or whole-body as the same equivalent dose of radiation to the whole body.

Unlike the effective dose in much of radiation safety, the effective dose in radiology is incidental but expected. Effective doses can be calculated and give out for specific procedures, such as a head CT scan.
